How does Nature impact the brain?
A study from Berlin, similar to research conducted in Japan, looks at the effect of spending time in Nature versus urban environments. In this particular study they used MRI scans to study the impact on the brain. It turns out taking a Nature walk decreases activity in the amygdala, which is responsible for the fight or flight response. Our hope is that further research will go into how time outdoors can help people with PTSD.
The Article concludes, “In any case, the new study offers some of the clearest evidence yet that stress-related brain activity can be reduced by taking a stroll through a nearby forest, just like our ancestors might have done.”
