Shinrin-Yoku Sound Bath: Forest & Sound Bathing in Central Park

  • Central Park at Great Hill 103rd and Central Park West Great Hill, Central Park New York 10025 (map)

Take the opportunity to slow down, to connect with nature and to yourself, enjoy time outside for reflection and to explore healing environments in the park while practicing the Japanese Art of Forest Bathing or "Shinrin-Yoku".

Take a break in nature to completely relax and let go in a safe Outdoor Sound Bath setting, while listening to soothing musical instruments being played as healing sound vibrations & frequencies bathe & wash over the body in an open field on a comfortable grassy lawn surrounded by a canopy of trees.

Forest Bathing is based on the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku that involves connecting with nature by "Bathing in the Forest Atmosphere”. Studies show time in nature lowers blood pressure, boosts immunity and reduces stress. During the experience, you will practice mindfulness and self-care activities in a guided outdoor class. Plan to see some of the most natural settings of Central Park, while learning activities that allow you to better connect with yourself and the outdoors. Leave feeling more centered, connected and at peace.

After the guided tour through Central Park, you will be led to a resting stop & given a few minutes break before ending up at an open field, on a grassy lawn nearby which will be set up and prepared for the Outdoor Sound Bath. While sitting or laying down in a comfortable position, you will be encouraged to look up into the sky, the trees and to place hands and feet on the ground to connect closer with the healing vibrations of Mother Earth, while various Sound Healing instruments will be played near, over and around the body promoting relaxation, clearing and balancing of the energy centers (Chakras), and grounding and centering of the body & mind.

This event will last a total of 90 minutes. Plan to spend 1 & 1/2 hours outdoors in Central Park during the Forest and South Bath combined experience. For the first 45 minutes, you will join Brooke Mellen from Cultured Forest for a guided "Shinrin-Yoku" Forest Bath tour through the North Woods of Central Park.

For the second 45 minutes, Mel Rio from the Singing Bowl and Sound Bath Studio will perform an Outdoor Sound Bath with various instruments like the Buffalo Drum, Tibetan/Himalayan Singing Bowls, Japanese Rin Bowls, Koshi Chimes & Tingshas, all intended to clear, cleanse and recharge your energy.

Please bring a yoga mat/blanket/towel to place on the ground when you sit or lay on the grass for the Sound Bath Meditation. Please bring a sweater/jacket in case of colder weather or if you get cold easily. Wear comfortable shoes with traction for walking.

The Forest Bathing portion will require a bit of hiking with some stairs and walking up and down steep inclines over rocks and hills. So please wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes/sneakers with good traction. Please bring a bottle of water in case weather is hot and you need hydration.
